Permanent Makeup FAQ

Please contact us  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows. It involves the manual application of pigment into the upper layers of the skin using a handheld tool with fine needles to create natural-looking hair strokes that mimic the appearance of real eyebrow hairs.

During the microblading procedure, the technician carefully designs the shape and style of the eyebrows based on the client's facial features and preferences. Then, using the microblading tool, they deposit pigment into the superficial layers of the skin, creating individual hair-like strokes that blend seamlessly with the natural eyebrow hair.

Microblading is popular because it can fill in sparse or over-plucked eyebrows, reshape uneven brows, or simply enhance the overall look of the eyebrows. The results typically last anywhere from one to three years, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

It's essential to choose a skilled and experienced microblading technician who follows strict hygiene and safety standards to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications. Additionally, proper aftercare is crucial to promote healing and prolong the longevity of the microbladed eyebrows.

Combo brows in microblading refer to a technique that combines both microblading and shading methods to create fuller and more defined eyebrows. In this technique, hairstrokes are meticulously created using a microblading tool to mimic the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs, while shading is applied to add depth and density to the brows. This combination results in a more polished and structured look compared to traditional microblading alone. Combo brows are often favored by individuals who desire a more filled-in and defined eyebrow appearance while still maintaining a natural look.

Ombre powder brows in microblading is a cosmetic tattooing technique used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows. Unlike traditional microblading, which involves creating individual hair-like strokes using a handheld tool, ombre powder brows utilize a shading technique to achieve a soft, powdered effect. During the procedure, tiny dots of pigment are deposited into the skin using a machine, gradually building up color and density to create a gradient effect from lighter to darker. This results in a more filled-in and defined brow appearance, resembling the look of softly applied makeup. Ombre powder brows tend to last longer than microblading and require less frequent touch-ups.

Lip Blush permanent makeup, also known as permanent lip makeup or lip micropigmentation, is a cosmetic procedure where pigment is implanted into the lips to enhance their shape, color, and definition. This procedure is similar to traditional tattooing but is specifically designed for the lips.

During the lip tattooing process, a trained technician uses a handheld tool or machine to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin in the lip area. The technician carefully selects a pigment color that complements the client's natural lip color or achieves the desired lip shade.

Lip tattoo permanent makeup can be used to:

  1. Enhance lip shape and definition: The procedure can create the illusion of fuller lips, correct asymmetry, and define the lip line.
  2. Add color: Lip tattooing can add semi-permanent color to the lips, making them appear more vibrant and defined. Clients can choose from a range of colors, including natural shades or bolder hues.
  3. Improve lip symmetry: For individuals with uneven or asymmetrical lips, lip micropigmentation can help create a more balanced appearance.
  4. Save time on daily makeup application: With permanent lip makeup, individuals can enjoy long-lasting lip color without the need for daily application of lipstick or lip liner.

It's important to note that while lip tattoo permanent makeup is long-lasting, it will gradually fade over time. Factors such as sun exposure, skincare products, and individual skin characteristics can affect the longevity of the pigment. Touch-up sessions may be required every few years to maintain the desired color and shape.

As with any cosmetic procedure, it's essential to consult with a qualified and experienced technician to discuss your goals, expectations, and any potential risks or considerations before undergoing lip tattoo permanent makeup.

  1. Do not engage in intense physical activity 48 hours before the procedure. The body can continue to burn calories for up to 36 hours post-workout, and increased body heat can expand pores, making it more challenging to retain pigment.
  2. Refrain from consuming alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or Pepto-Bismol for 48 hours prior to the treatment, as these substances may thin the blood.
  3. Avoid caffeine on the day of the treatment, as it may cause jitteriness in the client. While caffeine itself is not a blood thinner, it can elevate blood pressure, potentially leading to increased bleeding.
  4. Two weeks prior to the procedure, steer clear of sun exposure and tanning on the face, as compromised skin cannot undergo the procedure effectively.
  5. Avoid intake of fish oil, prenatal vitamins, nutritional shakes, and "Hair-Skin-Nails" supplements, as they may prolong bleeding time or thin the blood.
  6. Discontinue use of Retin-A, chemical and laser peels, microdermabrasion, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), and any chemical exfoliants or "brightening" skincare at least 6 weeks before the procedure. Following the healing of the eyebrows, refrain from using these products near the eyebrows to prevent premature fading.
  7. For individuals considering Botox and filler treatments on the forehead, temple, and eye area, these procedures should be performed 3 weeks prior to or 2 months after the permanent makeup procedure. Recent Botox treatments can make achieving symmetry challenging.
  8. Avoid waxing and tinting procedures one week before the permanent makeup procedure. Natural hair growth is preferred, and waxing may lead to breakouts.
  9. PLEASE NOTE: Sensitivity may increase during the menstrual cycle.
  10. Clients who smoke cigarettes experience delayed wound healing and accelerated skin aging. Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide, which displaces oxygen in the skin, and nicotine, which reduces blood flow, leaving the skin dry and discolored. Cigarette smoking also depletes numerous nutrients, including vitamin C, essential for skin protection and repair.

We love a good acronym so here’s one to help you out, just think of A - W - M which stands for Absorb, Wash, and Moisturize!

ABSORB - Day Of

  • After the procedure, gently blot the area with an unscented baby wipe to absorb excess lymph fluid.
  • Do this every 5 minutes until the oozing has stopped.
  • Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids.

WASH (Days 1-7)

  • Wash daily to remove bacteria, build-up of product and oils, and dead skin. (Don't worry, THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)
  • Gently wash the area each morning and night with water wipes or unscented baby wipes. With a very light touch, gently wipe the area.
  • To dry, gently pat with a paper towel. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or exfoliants.

MOISTURIZE AND HYDRATE (Days 1-7)

  • Apply a tiny, rice grain amount of Aquaphor once a day with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area.
  • Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The product should be barely noticeable on the skin.
  • NEVER put the product on wet/damp freshly tattooed eyebrows.

AWM should have you covered, but here are some extra tips to help with a smooth and easy recovery:

IMPORTANT INFO:

  • Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color.
  • No facials, Botox, chemical treatments, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area.
  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR SHOWERING:

  • Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair.
  • Your face should only be getting wet at the end of the shower.
  • Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

WET VS. DRY HEALING

  • This is where things get misconstrued. Many artists tell their clients not to wash the area for the entire healing time. Clients mistake this for a “dry healing method”; in actuality, this is what the different healing methods are:
  • The wet healing method - applying a product to the area after washing the area.
  • The dry healing method - not applying any product to the area after washing the area.
  • But, what method actually promotes the best healing?
  • The wet method of daily washing to reduce the buildup of bacteria and dead skin, coupled with the application of an aftercare product, allows the skin to heal fastest so your beautiful artwork can show through.
  • Applying aftercare creams will help to produce the proper cells to regenerate the surrounding tissues. It can also help the production of collagen, a protein that is essential for the proper healing and regeneration of damaged tissue. The method consists of daily cleansing of the injured skin to prevent bacterial buildup, as well as the application of a healing ointment.
